We held our 2022/23 AGM at Carsington Water on 22nd July 2023 – a perfect venue for our members.

We were delighted to welcome over 20 attendees to Carsington Water, and began the day with a talk from Christine Gregory, a Derbyshire-based writer, artist and photographer. Christine is the author of four books about the natural world, and gave a fascinating and engaging illustrated talk about water voles, one of Britain’s most endangered mammals. Her talk prompted questions and further discussion about the plight of this cherished animal.

Due to inclement weather the planned walk around Carsington was replaced by a short quiz provided by the Chair of Derbyshire CPRE, John Ydlibi. The quiz challenged delegates’ knowledge about CPRE and was won by Mr Adrian Watts.

Our next speakers were Julie Atkin and Christine Martin from the Save the Matlock Wolds group. Their presentation outlined the community action group’s campaign against development of 430 new houses on this important Wolds greenfield site. The presentation elicited many questions from delegates for discussion.

The meeting then covered the executive report and an overview of CPRE Derbyshire’s activities for 2022-23, as well as a financial update and plans for the coming year, including the aim to engage more volunteers.

Finally, we appointed our officers for the next year:
  • Chair – John Ydlibi
  • Vice-Chair – Andrea Watwood
  • Treasurer – Adrian Watts
  • Secretary – Karen Bradley
  • Independent Auditor – Jeff Hanson

CPRE Volunteering Award was presented to Isabella Stone, the outgoing Vice-Chair, in recognition of her long service and dedication to CPRE. We would like to thank Isabella for her much-valued contribution to the charity.

Hopefully we will see more of our members at future events.
