Welcome development at Cawdor

We’re pleased to see the brownfield development at Cawdor quarry in Matlock starting to take shape in 2020 after many years of planning.

CPRE Derbyshire helped prevent green fields at the far end of this site being added to the plans, but we fully support this town centre development of over 400 homes coming to fruition on previously developed land.

There is a local group, ‘Save Snitterton Fields’, which was set up when the original Cawdor Quarry application included 95 houses to be built on green land at the western end of the brownfield site, thankfully reduced to just 5 houses now.  The group is still working hard to make sure the planning conditions for the whole site, including retention of trees and other wildlife areas are observed.
