Seeking new Trustees and volunteer support

20th April 2021

With our new strategic vision in place we are looking to expand the group and reinvigorate thinking, processes and activities by bringing new Trustees on board.

Why we are recruiting

As we reported a few months ago, some of our existing Trustees are long-standing and at the end of their tenure under our constitution.

This offers an opportunity to refresh the group by recruiting new Trustees and to reconsider the relationship between Trustees and the Committee as well as how strategic oversight happens.  We are also in the process of recruiting a new Chair to lead this process.

The role of Trustee with Derbyshire CPRE

Trustees provide valuable oversight in the governance of our charity and actively contribute towards decisions to develop align activities with our strategic mission and the broader policy focus of national CPRE.

We’re ideally looking for volunteers with some previous organisational management experience and/or on charitable executive boards, plus an active interest in environmental and countryside issues.

Planning volunteer

We are also seeking a volunteer Planning Advisor – someone with a strong background in the field who can help us on a case by case basis to navigate some of the complexities of the  planning application process and effectively influence local government decision-making.

This would involve advising on and compiling our responses to Local Plans and development applications as well as potentially some active lobbying of local government and other stakeholders.

Context and impact of these roles

We are a small active and friendly group covering the whole of Derbyshire except for the Peak District, High Peak and parts of North East Derbyshire bordering on Sheffield.

These roles are offered at an exciting and important time for Derbyshire and the country as a whole:

  • Government new proposals on planning threaten to undermine local voices in the planning system and open up the countryside to greater threat of unmanaged and unsustainable development
  • National CPRE has a strong new Strategic Vision for 2020-2026 as well as a brand new leadership team
  • Our local group has a number of Trustees, including the current Acting Chair at the end of their terms of office

This offers a fabulous opportunity to refresh the Derbyshire group with new Trustees bringing their ideas and energy to help re-invigorate our strategic thinking and align the local needs of Derbyshire countryside against National CPRE policy.
