CPRE fights for a better future for England’s countryside

CPRE Derbyshire is a local branch of the national organisation Campaign to Protect Rural England.  We cover all of Derbyshire with the exception of the High Peak (whose branch is Friends of the High Peak and South Yorkshire).

Currently we have 312 members consisting of individuals, households, Parish Councils, clubs and other organisations.  Many of our members have been with us for years and we are grateful for their loyal support.  But we are also pleased to welcome new members, many of whom are joining because of concerns over how new planning laws are impacting on the Derbyshire countryside.

Our values

  • We believe that a beautiful, tranquil, diverse and productive countryside is fundamental to people’s quality of life, wherever they live
  • We believe the countryside should be valued for its own sake
  • We believe the planning system should protect and enhance the countryside in the public interest

The three principal ways in which we achieve our objectives are:

  1. Influencing government policies and legislation that affect the countryside
  2. Influencing planning decisions that affect the countryside at local and national levels
  3. Initiating and supporting activities that directly improve the countryside and rural communities

Our committee
Our committee consists of a small number of enthusiastic volunteers.  Because we have no paid officers and there are not many of us, it is not always possible to become directly involved in campaigning against issues that our members bring to us.  But what we will always do is:

  • Suggest useful publications that you can access online to help you to contest planning applications
  • Help you with wording that you can use to put your comments in writing
  • Put you in touch with organisations which share your concerns

We may be able to:

  • Register an objection to the application
  • Get directly involved

We work closely with Bettina Lange, planning and transport adviser.
